Summer Intensive
Those to whom Nature begins to disclose her revealed mystery feel an irresistible longing
for her most worthy interpreter, Art...
--Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
The Summer Intensive Week normally runs from Sunday evening through
Friday in late June. Exact dates are announced by early spring each year.
It consists of intensive practice in the arts within the context of a
specifically chosen theme that changes every year. The theoretical
work on the theme is deepened by the artistic work. Themes in the
past have included:
- Threefold Social Order
- Painting, Sculpture and Eurythmy
- Parzival (Wolfram von Eschenbach)
- Understanding Christ in a Pluralistic Age
- Drama and Creative Writing
- Interpreting Nature's Secrets (An Experimental Immersion on the Farm
and in the Arts at Hawthorne Valley)
The Summer Intensive is included in the coursework of Foundation Studies
and Teacher Training, but is open to the public for a tuition fee of $450.00.
Some need based reductions may be available, depending on enrollment numbers.
Hours are from 9 am to 4 pm (subject to change).
Upcoming for 2010:
Instrument making with Manfred Bleffert (metal instuments such as
gongs, chimes and metal rods). Improvisation with the instruments
will be part of the workshop, as well as chorus work. The Intensive will
be augmented with other artistic activities, such as painting, sculpture
and Eurythmy. This workshop will be held in conjunction with the Lyre
Association of America.
Further details will be forthcoming.
