About the Alkion* Center


The Alkion Center is pleased to offer two distinct adult education programs. The first is the foundation Studies in Anthroposophy and the second is the Teacher Training in Waldorf Education. The Foundation Studies in Anthroposophy program is designed to quide the participants through a cohesive sequence of group study, artistic practice and specialized seminar/workshops. Grounded in the path of inner development outlined by Rudolf Steiner, the goal of these courses is to awaken the individual to the working of the spirit in the human being, nature and society. The Alkion Center is a branch of the Hawthorne Valley Association located on 400 acres of biodynamic farmland. Hawthorne Valley is a vital community of educational, artistic, economic and therapeutic initiatives. Its great natural beauty and the diversity of its work make Hawthorne Valley an ideal setting for studies related to inner development.

* The Alkion is the ancient Greek mythological kingfisher who nests on the rolling sea during the Winter Solstice and calms the restless waves, bringing the peace of halcyon days. It was known to protect sailors from storms, lightning, and hidden shoals.
